It is applied to the leather by hand with the help of a small “aari” a hand tool similar to a crochet hook. Originally used to decorate clothing and the famous Kashmiri shawls, and practiced by both men and women, Kashmir produces Kashida of the highest quality. It is an historically important export for Kashmir.
